Helping Hands

History of FHG

Forgotten Harvest Global was born out of the personal ministry of Jose and Kristy Flores.  Jose & Kristy started their ministry together when they married in 2014. Initially they served 3 years with YWAM Minneapolis running their kitchen ministries. During that time God opened many doors for the Flores’ in their local community in areas of emergency food services.  Together Jose and Kristy then formed “Forgotten Harvest” – a ministry serving their local community through food rescue (finding and making food resources available to people in need before it goes bad) and relational ministry (mentoring, counseling, and listening to those the community has “forgotten” or marginalized).

Before their marriage, Jose served in his native Guatemala in both Teen Challenge and ministry on the street. Kristy’s background includes serving 8 years in YWAM Minneapolis and also ministering to her community as a Registered Nurse helping to deliver new babies into the world. They have two lovely daughters together - Natalia (age 6) and Alessandra (age 5); and a son Jose Eduardo (age 20) who just joined them in the USA from Guatemala!

For the next 4 years “Forgotten Harvest” collected produce (which would be otherwise discarded) and food staples from local Growers, Grocery stores, Food Shelves, and other food distributors. Food donations were then sorted and either given fresh, frozen, or prepared to individuals and organizations who needed it. Along with serving in various youth mentoring programs, Jose also taught cooking classes to help people know they are not alone, and to give them healthy food preparation skills.  The food distribution ministry started in the immediate Buffalo/Rockford area, but quickly expanded to reach as far as Minneapolis to the east and St Cloud to the West (a 40 mile radius).

In 2021 our Jose & Kristy moved from Minnesota to Kansas City, MO.  With the move came changes to the work of Forgotten Harvest, but not to it's heart.  The goal of Forgotten Harvest has always been to bring hope and healing to our neighbors through connection and meeting practical needs.  With the move to Kansas City, the ministry entered a new phase of ministry called "Forgotten Harvest Global" where we can help support missionaries all over the world with the connection, cousel, training, resources, and much needed funds they need in order to do their vital work.

We are excited to see where this phase of our ministry will take us!  Come join us on this journey of sharing God's love with our neighbors and our world.
